Patient Room Telephones

Patients may place calls within and outside of the Hospital from their bedside phone.

  • To make a local direct call outside the hospital, simply dial 9, and the desired number. Elkhart General is in the “574” area code.
  • Long-distance calls may be placed collect, charged to your home phone or charged to your credit card. Dial 9, then dial 0, the area code and the desired number. An operator will assist you with your call.
  • Callers may reach your room by dialing (574) 294-2621 and asking for you by name, room number or extension. Your extension is located on your phone.

Public Telephones

Pay phones are located in the following areas:

  • First floor, near “C” Elevator
  • Emergency Department
  • First floor, West Wing

Cell Phone Usage

Cell phones are permitted in non-patient care areas, such as Family Room, Dining Room and Waiting Areas.
