Elkhart General to Receive Clinical Excellence Award
April 13, 2004

Elkhart, IN – Sarah Loughran, Senior Vice President of Provider Services at HealthGrades, will present the 2004 Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence to Elkhart General Hospital officials at 12:30 pm Wednesday, April 21 in the Elkhart General Hospital Auditorium.

Accepting the award on behalf of the Hospital will be Greg Lintjer, President, and R. Bruce Newswanger, DO, Chief of Staff. Also making remarks at the ceremony will be Jeff Wells, Chairman, EGH Board of Directors; Arthur J. Decio, President, EGH Foundation; and Steven R. Bowers, President, Elkhart Common Council

Loughran’s responsibilities at HealthGrades include strategic and operational responsibility for quality improvement services to hospitals, new product development, and creation of methodologies that rate hospitals and other health care organizations. HealthGrades is the leading provider of health care quality information for consumers, employers, and the industry.

The Award reflects the fact that EGH ranked in the top 3.4 percent of all hospitals in the United States in seven clinical specialties – cardiac surgery, cardiology, orthopedic surgery, neurosciences, gastroenterology and pulmonary and vascular surgery. Health Grades based the award on a study of the hospital’s risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates of Medicare patients as reported to the federal government for the past three years in 26 different procedures.
