Elkhart General to Participate in "Life is Cool!" Program
November 3, 2009

ELKHART, IN – On Thursday, November 5 at Noon, Elkhart General Hospital, Indiana Organ Procurement Organization and Lion’s Eye Bank are sponsoring the first annual “Life is Cool!” program for fourth graders at Mary Daly Elementary in Elkhart.

The “Life is Cool!” program will feature several hands-on activity stations that will show students how organs and tissues of the body function, the importance of a healthy diet and lifestyle, and the science of organ and tissue donation and transplantation. Students will be able to listen to their own heartbeat, examine pig organs, compare the fat and sodium content of foods, experience what it’s like to suffer from corneal blindness, and play “Tissue Tic Tac Toe” and “ORGAN Bingo.” They will also have an opportunity to meet and learn from Elkhart General Hospital health care professionals and some transplant recipients from the community.
