The Elkhart General Heart and Vascular Center is a top provider of advanced cardiac care. The Heart Center strives to ensure that all heart patients throughout the Michiana area receive the life-saving care they need.

We offer a full array of diagnostic and interventional cardiac services and are a recognized leader in community education and screenings that form the front line against heart disease. Regular cholesterol and blood pressure screenings at health fairs and other events help identify those at risk.

Continuum of Care

Effective heart and vascular care depends on teamwork. In the case of a heart attack, the Elkhart General team is working together from the moment the ambulance is on its way to the day the patient completes their cardiac rehabilitation.

• Heart and Vascular Center History
  In 2000 a new Heart Center was added to the third floor of the Hospital. This $14 million, 32,000 square-foot area creates a “Heart Center within a Hospital.”
• Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories
  The Heart Center’s cardiac catheterization laboratory (cath lab) is a specialized service that plays an important role in the diagnosis and treatment of heart disease.
• Cardiothoracic Surgical Suites
  Cardiothoracic surgeons use these suites to perform various kinds of replacements or repairs that improve the performance of the heart.
• Cardiovascular Recovery Unit
  This 11-bed unit is primarily designed to prepare patients for open heart surgery, as well as for patients who have had or will have a cardiac catheterization procedure.
• Critical Care Center
  The 24-bed Critical Care Center provides intensive care for individuals who are critically ill, injured, or who have undergone extensive thoracic surgeries, including open heart surgery.
• Cardiac Rehabilitation
  Elkhart General Hospital has designed the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program especially to help restore coronary patients to optimal health status and to help them through this difficult time by offering information, advice, an exercise program, and careful monitoring of their rehabilitation plan.
