EMS Education

Have you been considering a career in emergency medical services? Would you like to learn basic CPR for your family's safety? Do you need a First Responder in your work place?

Elkhart General's EMS education program has been certified by the Indiana Public Safety Training Institute and one of five in the State that is Nationally Accredited through the Committee on Accreditation on Allied Health Education Programs. This is including classroom, hospital clinical and field education. Our certified professional educators can prepare you to become:

• Emergency Medical First Responder
• Basic EMT (Emergency Medical Technician)
• Advanced EMT
• Paramedic

The paramedic course can now lead to an Associate's Degree in Emergency Medical Services from Vincennes University, enabling students to compete for management and supervisory positions.

Community Friends & Family CPR Class

This class targets all lay rescuers, such as school-aged children and families members of patients who are at risk of sudden cardiac death. Students will be issued a course participation card.

Students will be instructed on:

• Chain of survival
• Survival and signs of heart attack, cardiac arrest, and stroke
• Foreign Body Airway Obstruction (FBAO) in adults and children
• Injury prevention in children

Course will be divided into three categories: Adult CPR, Infant and Child CPR, and CPR for All Ages

HeartSaver

This class targets security guards, firefighters, police, and Emergency Medical First Responders (people who would be responding to emergencies in the workplace). Students will be issued a course completion card.

Students will be instructed on:

• Chain of survival
• Survival and signs of heart attack, cardiac arrest, and stroke
• Foreign Body Airway Obstruction (FBAO) in adults and children
• Injury prevention in children
• Adult CPR
• Infant and child CPR

HeartSaver AED

This class targets Emergency Medical First Responders (people who would be responding to emergencies in the workplace). Students will be issued a course completion card.

Students will be instructed on:

• Chain of survival
• Survival and signs of heart attack, cardiac arrest, and stroke
• Foreign Body Airway Obstruction (FBOA) in adults and children
• Utilization of an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED)
• Adult CPR
• Infant and Child CPR

Community Health Care Provider CPR

This class targets people who provide health care in in-hospital or out-of-hospital settings.

Students will be instructed on:

• Chain of survival
• Survival and signs of heart attack, cardiac arrest, and stroke
• Foreign Body Airway Obstruction (FBAO) in adults and children
• Utilization of an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED)
• Utilization of a Bag-Valve-Mask (BVM)
• Adult CPR
• Infant and Child CPR
