Elkhart General’s Cancer Care Program Earns Second Outstanding Achievement Award

Elkhart General is the only Hospital in northern Indiana to be so recognized

The American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer has again awarded its Outstanding Achievement Award to the Elkhart General Regional Center for Cancer Services.

Only 66 cancer programs out of the 453 surveyed nationwide received the latest award. What makes the award particularly significant is the fact that EGH has received this recognition for two consecutive survey periods – acknowledgment that the Hospital has been providing superior cancer care to patients day-in and day-out for some eight years.

The Outstanding Achievement Award followed a rigorous evaluation process and review of performance, including an on-site evaluation by a physician surveyor. During the evaluation, the facility demonstrated a Commendation level of compliance with the most critical program features, including clinical services, community outreach, research, quality improvement, cancer committee leadership and cancer data management.

The Cancer Center provides advanced treatment options including surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, interventional radiology, and plastic and reconstructive surgery.
